About Voting for Christian Ideals...

I myself am a Christian, but here is the problem that I see in voting for Christian ideals. I have heard so many Christians say this: "If you are truly a Christian I don't see how you can vote for..." (And yes both names have been inserted there, both Obama and McCain have strong Christian support). But here's the thing, if we are true to Christian ideals and plan to put someone in the white house who only carries those ideals, neither of the men running for office would be legitimate options.

Someone I know said this: The problem with voting along Christian Ideals is that quite frankly neither man would stand up to Jesus' ways. Politics and religion don't mix well, it's as simple as that. We do not live in a Christian nation, we live in a nation that is run by a secular government. As a Christian I will do all I can to promote Christian Ideals, but as a citizen I vote for the man I think will be the best leader.

And I agree.

Your last couple treads have been fun angry looks into politics in general, and I agree with a lot of it. But this one I feel I need to say something about.

I, personally, don’t get why people think Christianity has anything to do with how they should vote. A person’s Christian ideals have nothing to do with what laws should come into place, what our foreign policy should be, or simply, how this country is run.

God does not want us to follow him by following laws. If you (the general you, not you the anonymous blogger) desire to do something bad, but stop because there is a law against that behavior that saves you jail time. But if that desire somehow conflicts with God’s will for you, this does not let you off the hook with him. Following the countries laws is not following God.

This desire of Christians to get others to follow God’s laws by following the countries laws does not lead to cultivating Christianity.

If you wish to follow God’s will – good! But don’t force others to. It doesn’t help them.

Church and State should and need to be separate.
